cell line to use for neural regeneration? - (Sep/16/2008 )
I want to start a neuro-protection/regeneration experiment and was wondering what you all think is the best in vitro model to use? Is there a cell line considered pretty standard for these kinds of experiments? Or is it mostly done with neurons isolated directly from mice? I'd like to do this with both mouse and human cells for the in vitro part, and will expand into in vivo with mice later.

The neuroregeneration/neuroprotection is better done with primary neurons. eg. cortical neurons or hippocampal etc.
You could also try to differentiate neuronal cell lines eg. SHSY5Y cells into neurons and try your experiments. But better in primary neurons.
