h, hr, hrs or hours? - min/mins or minute/minutes? (Sep/12/2008 )
Should I abbreviate hours and minutes in a microbiology paper? If so what abbreviation is right?
The instructions just say use standard SI units but I'm not about to start expressing all the times in seconds!

I would use "h" and "min". For the plural see: http://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Units/checklist.html

Hmmm... Milliliter (ml) is not acceptable unit...? Nor cc? Even liter (L) is just barely acceptable...

But every journal has its own rules (and some are strange). Therefore, just follow the authors instructions.

don't forget that the abbreviation of "litre" is the upper-case "L", not lower-case "l"
