Be an Agnostic-Deist and free your mind ! - what do you believe in? (Sep/06/2008 )
I do not want to disrespect any religion or belief. I think it is totally up to the individual to decide what he/she wants to believe in. but the truth is really out there....you just need to open your eyes to see it;
just for God's sake, you all are scientists, you understand more than ordinary people, don't you? your level of intelligence is higher than most people around the globe. so why do you go the wrong way?
There is a God....there is some sort of eternal energy who created the whole universe. or even more! God is so vast that our little brains can't absorb it. This power must be unique, so there is only one God. This is the main feature of deism.
There is also no doubt that the prophets existed. They delivered messages to humans from some sort of sources that cannot be God. God doesn't speak. God cannot order angels to deliver messages to the prophets either. If he does, then he is dependent on the time and dimensions which he created by himself. this denies the entire definition of God in messenger-delivered religions.
the identity of the sources which delivered messages to the prophets is unknown to us, this is one of the main factors of agnosticism.
There was no Adam and Eve (or not as what they teach us in books). we share the same kind of rRNA gene with all the creatures on this planet. so we all come from one source, the earth. We have read about all this in our biology books, haven't we? that is how we draw the phylogenetic trees. so why are you in doubt?
There is no need to panic. you will get used to the truth very soon. just like I did.
If you disagree then perhaps it is too early for you (or the rest of the human race) to believe in reality.
but what do all religions say? they say "be good humans".......so you keep being a good human. listen to your heart to be on the safe side.
that's all. it's just so easy.
Why not? I strongly agree with the views of Richard Dawkins that religion is afforded far too much respect. Sure, mock somebody for being a republican/democrat/conservative/liberal/their fiscal opinions or any other characteristic, but religious views, oh no, that is out of bounds. As he said at the end of his really great TED talk (link to the talk if you're interested) "Lets stop being so damned respectful"

ok I read this, I wish there was a youtube link there....
look what I found in there:
"But actually, how do American atheists stack up numerically? The latest survey makes surprisingly encouraging reading. Christianity, of course, takes a massive lion's share of the population, with nearly 160 million. But what would you think was the second largest group? Convincingly outnumbering Jews, with 2.8 million, Muslims with 1.1 million, Hindus, Buddhists and all other religions put together? The second largest group, with nearly 30 million, is the one described as 'non-religious' or 'secular'."
But I'm not an atheist. I believe in God (better say the super power, not the christian God)........however I've also heard that almost 60% of all scientists in the united states have no religion. it goes further for the Swedish people as nearly 70% of the whole population is non-religious.
by that do you mean - not your way
deja vu all over again
i have never in my life been to a church and said "youre all deluded idiots"
why do you insist on doing the equivalent?
its insulting
next thing we'll have the scientologists turning up telling us all were decended from aliens - will you laugh at them or keep quiet and respect their beliefs?

Well I wouldn't go so far as saying idiots, but deluded, I would agree with, especially concerning scientists who in all areas of your professional work will be very skeptical of anything that you read in a scientific journal. Take the flying spaghetti monster (FSM) for example. There is no way that you can prove that He does not exist. I just don't understand how you can go from being pragmatic and questioning throughout the week and then suddenly on Sunday (or whatever holy day applies) lose all of that and believe something that has no evidence to support it. Does it make any sense at all? (this isn't a rhetorical question - I am genuinely looking forward to hear your answer).
If, when I die, I end up meeting god at the gates to heaven and he is deciding whether I should enter, my rationale will be that there was not enough evidence to support my belief in god. As creator of the universe, a god must be a scientist and must therefore understand the rationale for not believing.
I would agree with miRNA man. If you stay perfectly neutral and stick with science lines of thought, you cannot say that God exist, neither can you say that he or she does not.
Now believing is caused by faith, whitch by definition lies on nothing but personal belief. That you cannot, or should not question. Political views are much easier to criticize

It is not insulting, people should wake up. but I won't force them to believe. at least not now. because I don't have the power, the money, the time,or the courage to do it. but my way is the right way....
and why would I laugh at scientists who say we might be originated from aliens?......what do you know about Annunakis?........I'm not saying they existed, but neither I deny it......that's agnosticism....let's just be brave enough to say that we don't know yet.
that is called good thinking......it's a shame not so many people are like you (good thinkers).....if they were, then we could build up a world of peace....without bloodshed.
In a way, I some times think that the Prophecy project was a big failure, because the project wasn't planned very well.....look what is happening now, muslim kills christian, christian kills jewish, jewish kills muslim.....it's all a messed up world they created....we don't know who 'they' were....but they weren't intelligent enough.....that is another reason proving the prophecy project was not supervised by God....God does not make mistake.....or as mRNA man says, he might not be there at all, because he did not show us much proof.

For an agnostic, who has the honesty to say "I don't know" when you don't know, you sure are pretty definitive, even dogmatic, about what God can and cannot do, that is, what his limitations are! How do you know God can't speak, or order angels to deliver messages, and how do you know that makes him dependent on time-space? How do you know there was no Adam and Eve; from what I hear, the search for Eve is getting down to only a few women (perhaps all we need is for the technology available to us to improve a bit more...)? And as far as the common rRNA is concerned, it should come as no surprise that we all share similarities in our rRNA if God created all life.

Who said there was no evidence? The New Testament is the best-attested ancient document in the world, and its historicity is above reproach. The historical narrative sections that describe people, titles and places around the Mediterranean Sea have been shown to be 100% accurate. If every ancient copy of every book of the New Testament was to disappear (that is, all of the hand-written ones made before the invention of the printing press), it could be reconstructed, except for 7 verses (probably 50-80 words out of ~140,000), using the letters that ancient church leaders wrote to each other, quoting various letters and gospels.
