Suggest a timeframe for a research - (Sep/04/2008 )

Hey all, i'm new here. I'm currently working up with my master proposal. My research will basically involve proteomic analyisis to identify new novel biomarkers, and then test its association with selected genes that carried by different patients. Do u think such research can be finished in two years time? Any suggestion on the methodology?

it depends on various things such as on financial, logistic and spiritual support;

...and you need some luck since you have to succeed early in your phase of screening; then, you have to characterize your candidate for biomarkers fundamentally; two years is short but possible to present hopeful candidates of biomarkers with luck and to throw some suggestions of novel biomarkers into discussion...

to establish novel biomarkers is a long-drawn-out process as it should be stated and accepted by different groups; this would last much longer than two years...

Your task will be made simpler if you already have a cohort of patient samples. The task is do-able, but you'll need your protocols for samples extraction, enrichment of low-level proteins, and down-stream analysis well-established.

How good is the genetic data? That can be a minefield if there isn't already some association data, or at least some basic linkage analysis. If the project already has a few potential genes and biomarkers, your chances improve: if it's a bit of a fising expedition, you (or your PI) might be dreaming...

yea, thanks.

by the way, if i going to do RNA isolation and microarray analysis, how much of blood sample i need to obtain from patient? I may need more for more replicate results. happy.gif
