how to prepare blocking antibody - (Aug/25/2008 )

I need to prepare a blocking antibody. I want to use this antibody to block the function of this targeted protein. I know how to prepare the general antibody, But I don't know how to prepare the blocking antibody which can block the function of the protein. It depends on how well do you know this protein (3-D structure, domain structures or active center), if you want to go polyclonal (immunize animals with whole or partial protein) or monoclonal (synthetic peptide epitopes), trial and error and luck. You juts have to test your antibodies out. There is no fixed solution for this problem, I am afraid.
