induce apoptosis - make them died slowly (Jul/23/2008 )
Does anyone know any drug (other than anisomycin) that can induce apoptosis?
Since I want them died slowly (yes I really really really hate them ), could you also share the dose of those drugs? So 2/3 cell can stay for at least 72 hr.
Any suggestion help. Thanks
If cell line will affect the decision, the cell lines I am trying to evaluate are skBR-3 and MCF-7 (human mammary tumor).
I don't know if this will help but common selectable markers are blasticidin, G418, hygromycin, zeomycin, etc. A cell line would be transfected with some plasmid containing the Ab selection and you would treat the cells with the appropriate drug to kill off any non-transfected cells.
Hi,
I work with these two cell lines as well and some good drugs to induce apoptosis are etoposide, ara-c, cisplatin. These are just some ways to induce You can play with the conc. and for how long you want your cells exposed to these depending on what u r looking for.
The antibiotics will indeed kill the cells, but not necessarily via apoptosis.
Some of the reagents I use to induce apoptosis would include staurosporine, tunicamycin (via ER-stress induced pathway), and sodium butyrate.

apoptosis can be induced f.i. with vinblastine, campthotecine, staurosporine; if apoptosis is triggered the cell death program will run; you may use low dosis to induce apoptosis not to all cells
thapsigargin is another apoptosis-inducer
Thanks you for all suggestion
Now it is time for them to suffer
Actinomycin induces apoptosis
also you can simply put them under UV. they'll die by apoptosis.
