Transfect competent cell? - (Jun/23/2008 )

Hi!
I am a bit lost with the idea. I have the competent cell kit e.coli dh5 strain. My colleague said that I could use this competent cell with transfection reagent kit.

I am a bit lost. Could I know if this is possible? He said that we could use the plasmid DNA of the e.coli.
But somehow, I just don't get the idea. Please enlighten me.

What exactly you want to do with your cells? You want to TRANSFORM the bacteria for amplifying some plasmid DNA of interest or later TRANSFECT this DNA in to other mammalian cells?
