URGENT some questions that must be easy for you. - I need to know the meaning of some cientific words .. PLEASE!!! (May/31/2008 )

Hi... first of all, thanks for reading this.

there are some stuff in a paper that I don't get and I have to make powerpoint and talk about it on monday xD
So I would really appreciate if you tell me what are this terms...

agonist.. agonist evoked
"Recovery from citral inhibition
Citral inhibition of agonist-evoked TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPV3,
and TRPM8 currents was essentially irreversible"

"Agonist-evoked TRP channel activity is increased and
potentiated by citral
We next examined whether citral evoked an additive response
in TRP channels activated by other established agonists (Fig. 2).
Citral initially increased the agonist-evoked responses of TRPV1,
TRPV2, and TRPV3 (Fig. 2A, cool.gif. In contrast, agonist activation
of TRPM8, TRPV4, and TRPA1 was not increased or potentiated
by citral (Fig. 2D, E)."

I JUST DON'T GET IT... WHAT'S AGONIST?

please check this image. it's url is: http://img.godlike.cl/images/citraltrp.jpg if it doesn't work.

well... what is a washout? and again.. agonist?

thanks a lot.

-Rock_Gene_Expression-

the information you need may be found in the article itself;

TRP channels are a heterogenous group of cationic channels with some selectivity for Ca2+; natural activators are f.i. monoterpenes but the book is not closed; some pharmacological agonists (=activators) may become clinical relevance

-The Bearer-

The figure says 'Citral is partial agonist of. . . .' Look up 'partial agonist' also.
