Quantification of cholesterol (Franey et al.) - (May/21/2008 )
I need a little organic chemistry help.
When subjecting cholesterol to FeCl3 and sulfuric acid, a colour is produced. We have been using this to measure cholesterol concentrations in blood.
We have been discussing what reaction actually occours.
Is it the alcohol group that is substituted with iron, or is it another reaction that occours that i can't seem to comprehend.
