Extremely precious sample with degraded DNA - what to do? - (May/20/2008 )

Hi All,

I have a tissue sample of about 30 mg from a rarely collected animal (a tiny deep sea antarctic invertebrate that lives about half a kilometer below the surface). The DNA is very degraded due to bulk fixation of the sediment the animal was found in. Is whole genome amplification using something like Genomify my best bet to get data out of this thing? Are there any companies that specialize in doing this?

Check the NEB Pre-PCR enzyme mix which fixes many degraded DNA issues. WGA following this is probably as good as you will do.
