Post doc - (Apr/22/2008 )

Can some one tell me some web sites where post doc positions are advertised......

-samita-

the scientist - careers

and

biotechniques job listings

are a couple of places.

-mdfenko-

those places definitely have really fierce competition. Without any publication on high impact factor journals, probably cant even go for the interview. Am I right?

Most postdoc positions are not advertised. Just decide what professors you would like to work for (based on your interests and their publications and reputation), then write them letters. Postdocs are cheap labor, and most labs will welcome good scientists. Having a fellowship or potential for one helps too. Location is also important, as postdocs tend to last longer than you originally plan.

I second this. My boss never advertises positions, but will happily interview anyone who spontaneously asks him if he is accepting new grad students or post-docs, and everyone in our lab has received their job in this manner. My other half also got his current post-doc by just asking a prof in his field if he would be interesting in hiring him.

Any tips when searching for post doc positions?

I guess networking is really important. Is it really important to work at the same field as the PhD work?

-timjim-

its good to work on the same subject but after working quite hard or specially with stupids one would like to work on new subject.
I want to go for post doc but i would like to do it in a way rather to just have an academic benefit after finishing the post doc i can start a career in indusrty.
