Hi, All,

Does anybody know which brands of pipettes are the best? Our pipettes are from Rainin which is not so good. My PI asked me to buy better pipettes for the lab.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've used Gilson and Eppendorf.
I like eppendorf better.

I agree with BioEngRA.

I use both also.

When use on lab work or handling I like Eppendorf better.
But when clean those damn things, Gilson actually is easier to clean and track all parts.

I like Capp pipettes, they are fully autoclavable and easily serviced.

Gilson, Finnpipette (research level) or Eppendorf.

I agree. I switched to Eppendorf from Gilson after I developed a repetitive strain injury in my wrist. I find the Gilsons require too much force when pipetting and ejecting tips, and become very uncomfortable to use after a relatively short time. Some people insist Eppendorfs aren't as accurate, but I've tested them myself, and find the accuracy and consistency to be as good as the Gilsons, even with very small volumes.

Although I do also agree that Gilsons are easier to clean. tongue.gif

Of the three types of micropipettes I've used, my opinion is that Gilson < Eppendorf < Finnpipette. Gilson pipetmen are a pain to work with, Eppendorfs are ok, while I have nothing but praise for my Finnpipettes.

Hi, Everybody,

Thanks a lot for your useful suggestions! I am still looking for them. I have more questions. among these three types of pipettes, which one is more accurate? Is it easy to clean Finnpipettes?

I really appreciate your reply!

Nowadays, accuracy is pretty much the same, as long as you treat the instruments with respect. Don't go over or under the volume range, don't drop the pipette, keep solutions from getting into the barrel.
Cleaning is also pretty much the same level of difficulty. Calibration can also be carried out, with varying degrees of frustration...
