Scientific Format Regarding Reviews - (Apr/04/2008 )

Hey all im after any advice in the writing style and formatting of a scientific review. Im doing an assignment for my final year studies and hardly any criteria or guidelines have been given by the department. The only advice given by the department was for students to read articles in journals such as Physiological Reviews and Trends in Physiology and to get a feel of thing and make our own inferences on the layout. Now i don’t have access to any reviews from these journals so if anyone has any good examples of review writing no matter what the subject matter is that would be fantastic. Also pointer from people with prior experience would be great.

Thanks

Hi David,

You should be able to access lots of review articles for free. To see some reviews, do a search in PubMed and set the search Limits to 'Links to free full text'. Everything that shows up you'll be able to view. You can also further restrict your search to reviews only, to help you find some good examples. As a hint, when you go to write your own review, make sure that you write a review of primary research articles, and not reviews! Some people make the mistake of using review articles as their primary source of information, which is bad form. Any information you provide in your review should reference the original research, and not someone else's interpretation of it.

Good luck!

Thanks Giners, that was some great advice.

Anyone else want to give advice or tips? Only have a few more days before the assignement needs to be handed in so get in quick haha.
