brine shrimp ecotoxicity test - (Apr/01/2008 )

Hi,

I want to screen an extract library for toxicity using brine shrimp. I was just wondering what kind of media most people use to culture them?

Also, what are your opinions on cyst-based assays vs assays using cultured animals?

I'm in two minds about this test .....

What is your opinion of the brine shrimp lethality test? Is it biologically relevant to test for cytotoxic agents?

I'm beginning to doubt if it is even worth doing. It would be probably just as much effort as conducting an MTT test... which would obviously be more relevant....
