an alternative proposal for the term "colocalization", please

-The Bearer-

at the scale of electronic microscopy "close proximity" or "interaction"

-tryptofan-

"overlap"(?)

-mdfenko-

overlay ???

-scolix-

cohabit?

-mdfenko-

proximal

Definition: close by
Synonyms: abreast, abutting, adjacent, adjoining, along toward, alongside, approximal, around, available, beside, bordering, burning, close, close by, close shave*, conterminous, contiguous, convenient, hair's breadth*, handy, hot, immediate, near miss, near-at-hand*, nearby, neighboring, next door*, nigh*, not remote, practically, proximal, proximate, ready, touching, vicinal, warm*

as i remember it theres no such thing as true co-localisation

thanks dom....the entire context universe wink.gif so what do those asterisks mean?

Yeah I read that paper...so what does this mean within the context of microscopy? only something spatial, coincidental, doesn't necessarily imply interaction or inter/dependent function? near miss? burning? warm? I really like your english tongue.gif

a pleasure once again,

Not the Oxford? mad.gif What a disappointment for our queen dom. To return to the original topic, The Bearer had a serious query and you had to show off and give him the entire context universe wacko.gif . In case you missed that minute detail, he was asking for an alternative to co-localisation which is a noun and your answer “proximal” is an adjective.

Hence, being loyal and all to the queen, I consulted the Oxford dictionary and as I had suspected “proximal” actually means related to or towards the center or point of attachment (as in proximal vs distal). Proximate is the more appropriate term but since it’s an adj, I had to think of the noun derivative (?) proximateness (no?), proximatisation (no?but note the s), proximisation (no?), and voila, is it proximity (my how clever of me) laugh.gif ? But seriously though (let’s cut through the BS), can proximity really replace co-localisation?

my pleasure, as usual

thanks to all; Dominic is right, I think, in the case that there is no really "co-localization" so that is the reason I am looking for a better term; however, it is commonly accepted that colocalization is that what the (microscopic) image says at high resolution;"proximity" would be nice but must be commented (near or close proximity f.i., and then it would be asked what I mean with nearor close (distance in nm?)
