storage buffer for purified protein - (Jan/27/2008 )

Hello, Is there any good 'general' buffer that can be used to store purified recombinant protein after purification? I would like to bring the expressed protein for ELISA testing. Can I store my protein in PBS? or any other recommended buffer?

please advice.

Thanks

i use the Bc300 buffer (prepared as in Dignam et al. 1983). i add glycerol up to 30% for better protein stability through month. Also my monitoring procedure is the effect of my recombinant protein on in vitro transcription assay.
BC300 : HEPES KOH 20mM, glycérol 30%, 0.1% NP40, 300mM KCl, 0.5mM DTT 0.5mM PMSF, pH 7.9

in addition to fred_33, some proteins especially enzymes need some trace elements such as Zn2+, Mn2+ or others; high glycerol is especially to recommend for shock freezing;

in contrast to fred_33, I do not recommend the use of PMSF especially in the case of enzymes as it is toxic and may inhibit enzyme activity (PMSF does noz only inhibit proteases)
