storage of antibiotics - (Jan/11/2008 )

Hey everyone,
Quick question. At what temperature should dissolved antibiotics (G418, hygromycin, neomycin) be stored at? Someone told me they can be stored at 4C or -20C, is there a difference?

Thanks,
joe

hi
i have read that antibiotics after preparing stock should be stored in aliquots in -20 and minimize freeze thaw .

never heard of any used at 4 degree, maybe for immediate use smile.gif

sometimes when i thaw the antibiotics , and the agar is not cool enough i keep them at 4 degree till the agar is cool enough, maybe they meant that .

for liquid ones :
i store solutions at -20° except the current tube i'm using (sotrage at 4°)

for powders : i store powder at -20° and prepare a solutiuon of antibiotics which is aliquoted. most are stored at -20°, 1 or 2 are at 4°.

Matter is for longterm storage, powder at 4 (better at -20°), liquids are at -20°C
