Black cat day - stop killing (Nov/19/2007 )
i saw this title today in news
i know that many people become pressimistic when see a black cat, but killing them !!
here's one site posting the topic:

This kind of news makes me all the more a pessimist when thinking about humans. It seems that humanity has only developed the trapping of modern civilisation.... for the most part we are still mentally trapped in the dark ages or stone age.
Humanities as a wholes believes in many strange and illogical things.
That's a pretty crazy story. I wouldn't have pegged Italians as that crazy superstitious.
black cats are not unlucky... unless they decide to sleep on my white shirt which i have to wear the next day. there is no reason to kill these beautiful, smart, loving creatures. neuter your pets.

hahaha
cute pictures ..
i think , therefore i meow
yes, there is no reason for killing them
but some people are scared of such blacks, specially at dark nights
It is a sad story, poor cats. But actually this won't eradicate the cat population, Italy is full of cats and many are free-living (or homeless?).
To be sarcastic: Perhaps it is the indirect intention of this action to help the songbird populations that are really in danger when migrating over Italy to their overwintering habitats (Italians love it to trap/shot them as food).
PS I always thought that it is a fairy tale that free living animals/pets are used as experimental animals in laboratories, but this article tells a different story??
trust me or not: I have never heard before about a black cat day.....
Ok, you can say I'm trying to make some propaganda, but Italian people are generally medieval enough to be superstitious, but not so rude to shot poor cats.
In case of black cat crossing, the most popular remedies to avoid bad luck are:
- make the "horns" hand gesture (see pic and "hand gesture" on wikipedia) with fingers pointing at the ground
- men: touch their (own) bollocks (ehm, no pics available this time...and sorry if I'm too rude...
)
- waiting for someone else to cross for first the cat's path
Moreover, I don't really know if there are business opportunities for black cats catchers who want to sell them to labs. That's true that Italian research labs are underfunded, but there's abundance of mouses and rats in sewers and countrysides. So, tell me why you have to pay someone for a black cat, when you can have for free a bigger rat from the sewer? And it will be black too...

I've never eaten any songbird: all feathers and bones, not enough meat and too hard to catch if you are not a cat.....I definitely prefer pork.
Some traditional dishes, dating back to more or less 50 years ago when Italy was a lot poorer than today, include songbirds or cats. However, nowadays you won't find any of those specialities in supermarkets or restaurants or on the people's table. Trapping of songbirds is forbidden by law and cats are now only considered house pets...
Ach, poor ones It is definetly not true with the bad luck.
in bad taste:
