Identifying Stem Cells - which method (Nov/11/2007 )

Hello everybody

I would like to know which method I can use to identify stem cells in a sample of human tissue.
Is there a group of genes that are expressed only in undifferentiated cells?
There is a good label or a panel of good markers?

Thank you rolleyes.gif

I guess all stem cells share one characteristic -side population. If you have a flow cytometry with violet laser, you can stain with hoechest , the side population should be stem cells.
