New Year Approaching - goals etc (Nov/06/2007 )

Pages: 1 2 Next

It's just after halloween. the x-mas displays in the malls are out in full. stores have already bought easter bunnies and easter eggs, which are waiting in the backroom for me.

with all this happening... has anyone put any thought into new years resolutions?
Next year... 2008...

to kick things off... let it be known that i am completely mad.

besides all the work goals (finish this paper, get my mices to have babies, etc etc), i have decided to finish a marathon. i will not walk it, or take over 5 hours to complete it. running for 42Km. why? well, it started out as a joke, and now it's not a joke. not quite sure how that happened. anyway, it'll be character building.

has anyone started to think about a goal for next year? something to make next year different from any other year?

More New year resolution to be made and more to be broken.

I always told myself that I wanted to lose weight (few years) and also to be more active and fit. Well, it never happened as something or the other always interfered with my exercise schedule. Like my favorite TV program would come up at the same time as I wanted to go to the gym or I would prefer to keep my appointment for a friend's party than with my sweat shirt and tired legs. Well, one year my resolution caught me by the neck and made me lose weight and become fit. I moved into a new apartment on the 7th floor with no elevator. Someone else had booked the apartment and had no idea about this minor discomfort. I was forced to stay there for a few months. Naturally, I lost weight. But Nature decided this wasn't enough. The lab I chose to work had only moved to a village and I had to cycle everyday for few miles (took me 30 min- one way).

Now I choose my resolutions carefully. I might be have to fulfill them eventually.

Are you suggesting that I won't be able to complete my resolution?

Anyone up for a bet? NO money to exchange hands... but something more humiliating. If Minnie Mouse doesn't finish her project and graduate, she'll have to wear mouse ears to work for 1 day (and post a picture of it)... or something equally distressing. it's her choice, of course. and something similar for sanjiun81.

if i don't finish a marathon this year, i'll wear a shirt on New Years Day 2009 with LOSER written across the front. in public. photo posted in this listing.

As what I've said in Minnie's thread which was brought up again by BB (and now there are two), I've finally given up on making a specific set of goals...so no lists just expectations. Also I've decided that I won't try to learn something new be it a skill or a hobby etc, I'll just work on the ones I already have (they're usually half-baked I'm afraid)...saves a lot of time too.

I like dance not much on the peformance of it but more as an spectator. I could do some like the latin ones tho not so decently but what the heck I'm shameless to the core tongue.gif ...but last summer I watched a belly dancing performance in one club we were in and I was completely blown away...the costumes and dancers, the mystery, the hypnotic beat which gathered up speed paving the way for a phenomenal denouement (I'm trying to avoid the C word here) yeah may be I'll take up some classes this coming new year. But first I think I'll join you in training (at least in spirit) Vetticus...I can't go to class looking like I swallowed a watermelon or perhaps a cantaloupe smile.gif. Here's to keeping in shape (losing the sag) and finishing the marathon...

I am telling you not to quit and try hard to complete the marathon this year.

Don't postpone it for another year !!!

Good Luck !!!

New Year resolution... maybe I should try to find a real job.
I'm tired to be a Postdoc, always hoping that we will have a grant, and keep my salary, or changing project, lab or even city or country.
Ok, I should talk about something else, unless I will get depressed, and tears are coming.
