detection threshold of western blotting - (Apr/26/2004 )

Who know the detection threshold of western blotting
?

-Daniel5306-

Depends on the antibody, accessibility of the epitope etc. Is it anti-tag, like a His tag, of against the protein? you can get to sensitivity of nanograms, but it all depends.

rolleyes.gif I have just bought an Odyssey system that allows me to quantify proteins in pg levels!!!!

-WesternBlotter-

Textbook detection thresholds never work in the lab to the claimed levels. Lab thresholds are set by serial diluting your antigen from mg to ug to ng to pg etc and running a blot under your set conditions. Odyssey is indeed one such kit that takes you to pg and even gg levels.
