pH and Temp - A small doubt... - (Aug/31/2007 )

Hi,
I have a basic doubt regarding the temperature and pH relationship. When a solution is boiled, the pH of the solution decreases... What is the basic reason for this?? Can anybody explain this in simple words?? coz I found some materials which are too technical ... Thanks...

higher the temperature.. higher the dissociation of H+.. higher the freee H+.. lower the pH.. !!
does that make sense?? simple sense?! smile.gif

and in the world of autoclaving culture medium...
high temperature + oxygen + sugar = oxidation = organic acids = higher acidity.

Great... Both d answers seems to be logical and acceptable... thanks a lot...

what about CO2? boiling lets solved CO2 evaporate which limits H2CO3: so decrease of pH by boiling should be at least biphasic

must not forget the pressure. the solution in an autoclave should never actually boils. If anything increasing pressure would force more CO2 into solution.

you are right but the question refers to a boiling solution...
