staphylococcus cfu and OD's - (Aug/28/2007 )

Hello,
Does anyone know where I can find a standard curve for OD and cfu/ml of staphs?
Thanks.

hey, it's you again.

we never did use a standard curve because we looked at many strains and they weren't always the same. however, I bet you could get to your infection/dilution more easily with a standard curve-

cfu/mL for Staph??? It would be absurd, coz a single cocci would give u a colony, also a cluster (usually Staph are cocci in clusters) would do the same... So the count wont be true...

I think what she's looking for is a way to enumerate the cells in a suspension, not just to get them to grow

Yeah thats what I'm trying to do! Thanks aimikins, sorry I haven't replied to your email yet but I am mad busy working on antimicrobial assays (which I have never done before) with a student. wacko.gif

I have got the values that come with mcfarland standards and have plotted a graph of that but I know that is just an average for bacteria. I am going to have a go at making a standard curve myself - not sure how successful it will be!?

-LittleMiss-

probably more accurate than the macfarland standards smile.gif

let me know how it goes? with careful pipetting, a couple repeats will be tedious as hell but you'll get a solid, reliable curve from it

good luck
