"Melting" matrigel - Help, new matrigel behaving strangely (Jul/16/2007 )
Hi!
I just bought a new bottle of matrigel (same producer as always). This matrigel forms solid gels at 37 degrees as usual but as soon as I add media on top of it (to prevent drying) it becomes "runny" and "dissolves" in the media. Does anybody know how to solve this problem? And tricks and hints?

preparation of matrigel from stock needs dilution and extensive shaking; could it be that it was not carefully mixed to a really homogeneous solution?

Is it possible that you added cold media, and the matrigel desolidified upon contact with the media and dissolved completely.
Hi guys, the matrigel was carefully mixed so it should be homogenous and the media was warmed to 37 degrees... The matrigel was even allowed to set overnight...
Still a mystery

Complain to the company and demand either your money back or a replacement
‘Paid good money for this and it melts on contact.’
'I want to see your manager.'
'Then send somebody over here and take a look for their self. '
If nothing works it might just be that the product is at fault.
It's probably a bad batch. I would contact BD and try to get a replacement.
