COLLAGEN EXTRACTION DOUBT - (Jun/29/2007 )

Can anyone explain what exactly do the NaCl and acetic acid solutions do in the collagen extraction process from bovine dermis ?
I do understand that there are some acid soluble and salt soluble fractions in there but would like to know the details !

Not an expert on this, but my understanding is that you need first use NaCl extraction to remove most soluble proteins that are not part of the matrix. Once these contaminant proteins are removed, you can use HOAC extraction to dissolve collegen.
