DNA sequencing on the left and right chromosome - do we assume that left and right chromosomes have the same DNA sequenc (Apr/12/2007 )

Hi all,

Do we assume that both left and right chromosomes have the same DNA sequence when we do the sequencing? What happen if a carcinogen causes a point mutation at the left chromosome but not at the right chromosome?

How can we detect that?

Thank you!

NO that is the point of alleles the alleles may have slightly different sequences (these differences are usually referred to as single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNPs) You detect by sequencing.

sequencing with heterozygote detection.
