serum-starving of cells - (Apr/12/2007 )

Hi,

I am using HUVEC cells and want to serum-starve them in order to get all cells to the same part of the cell cycle prior to applying my treatment of interest. In general when I have serum-starved before, using other cell lines, I would just simply leave out the FBS. However my media for HUVECs has many other additives apart from FBS e.g. VEGF, IGF, EGF ect. Would you also leave these out when serum-starving or is it just the growth factors from the FBS that need to be excluded?

Thanks in advance for your help!

When going serum free, the purpose is to remove animal components. This is done for a number of reasons, primarily for lesser variability though.
So, decide likewise.
