Your city - Taking up casandra's challenge in Chit Chat (Feb/20/2007 )

Ok, the challenge has been laid, the gauntlet thrown down!
If you were to host some visitors to your home city, what four things would you take them to see/do? Four things only, please, we don't want this to turn into an essay, do we ?

I'll kick things off. I'm from Sydney, so the four things I'd take visitors to see are :-
1. A cruise on Sydney Harbour (finest harbour in the world, imho biggrin.gif ), including a visit to Taronga Zoo (pet koalas, see 'roos etc).
2. A trip to the Blue mountains, west of Sydney
3. A surf of the Northern beaches of Sydney (including a visit to Palm Beach, the swetting for the Aussie soapie "Home and Away", for any English visitors wink.gif biggrin.gif )
4. A trip up to the Hunter Valley, north of Sydney for some wine-tasting!

Very interesting thread indeed. But you miss out Wollongong. And of course the best will be the walking trail from coogee beach to bondi beach. That was awesome! wub.gif

My humble turn. wink.gif

I am from Kuala Lumpur (very humid and hot city). Four things:

1) A day trip to all the temples (Chinese, Islam, Indian) and experience the total different cultures
2) A day trip of food tasting. Either Malay, Chinese, Italian, French... name it.... We have everything here. And some food is pretty spicy.
3) A day trip for hiking (Out of the city)! Visit the oldest tropical rainforest in the world.
4) Hmmm... this is tough. Can spend a day with my family and experience home stay. Just joking. Perhaps go to some bars or clubs. happy.gif

Why not...

4 things about Brisbane:

1. A trip to the Gold Coast! to the beaches & theme parks
2. Go to see Outback spectacular (with a steak dinner)
3. Drive up to the Mt Cootha lookout to see Brisbane from another perspective
4. For those Steve Urwin fans, a visit to his zoo. For those who aren't, koala cuddling at lone pine sanctuary.

Hey Mike,
I’ve been trying to find my gauntlet… I guess this is where it finally landed wink.gif . Just 4 places would be quite tough if you’re visiting Montreal and the neighboring cities because anything you want to see or experience we’ve got it- this is where the old world charm meets the new world vibrancy plus it’s a one-stop shop for nature lovers. If you’re visiting, you have to:
1. take in the sights and sounds around the old port of Montreal where you can also hop on a cruise along the St. Lawrence river; the museums and cultural venues are just a metro ride away;
2. visit the olympic park which houses the stadium used in the 1976 summer games and the Biodome; nearby is the botanical garden- second only to the Kew;
3. climb up Mont Royal where you can get a perfect view of downtown Montreal’s skyline, the river and the Monteregie hills;
4. check out the Montreal casino (smoke-free) and the underground city, a 30 km subterranean, multilevel network of shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants etc connected by the metro system.
And this is just a teaser and only for urbanites.

Agree with cassandra!

But, you should still call the river "Fleuve St-Laurent", it souds funny to a frenchy's ear otherwise

wink.gif

And speaking of rivers, you must go to the Saguenay river (province of Quebec), the world's only sailable fjord!

I picked four just so it would be a challenge!
