lab life is hard, difficult and full of failure (in experiments, of course....), but there must be good thinghs in lab too..... unsure.gif
so, question...what do you like about your lab?

In my case i love the smell of LB medium just prepared blush.gif hehe.
of course, having good results in my experiments is a really good thing too closedeyes.gif

I like the smell of LB too. I think it's the yeast extract. It reminds me of some protein shakes I used to drink back in high school. The drinks were foul, but I guess it's the reminder of a good time in my life.

I suppose it's the people I like best. Even though most are total opposites of me and I wouldn't hang out with them outside the lab, they are all great people who would help you with anything.

I like ethanol smell blush.gif and getting good results.

I like my lab because of the bunch of other people that will cheer me up when I facing failures in experiments. How sweet.

I like to make gel too. Agarose or polyacrylamide. happy.gif

I love the smell of solvents like chloroform, ethanol, isopropanol, phenol, etc. unsure.gif

I like that I have a good equipped lab almost for my self . The whole company is in other city, here, there is just this lab and I’m the only one who work in this 4 big rooms lab. I have everything just for me! Well, by boss sometimes works in the cell culture room, but she is almost always outside! glare.gif
But At the same time, that’s my problem too! I live alone and I’m new in this town too, so I have no friends and sometimes I speak with nobody for days sad.gif (just by phone or mail with colleagues and suppliers). I have a boyfriend, but he lives in other city so I see him just on weekends.
I must confess one of the reason I like this forum (In addition of the great technical help is because I feel less alone!

That's so interesting -- making gels is one of my LEAST favorite things! tongue.gif

I like the flexibility. What other job can you say "oh, I'm running a gel" and go to a doctor's appointment? Not that I do that often, but it's just nice to have.

I like the smell of the incubator when I open it up. I also like walking into someone else's lab full of equipment/reagents and thinking to myself "I know how to use that!"

One of the things I don't like is the smell of LB (precisely because of the Yeast Extract tongue.gif).

But I do love the smell of ethanol and methanol.

Apart from the smell side, I love the flexibiliy too. It's always good to have the possibility of making your schedule, to decide when any given experience will take place! But most of all, I like my colleagues, who have become real friends to me. The really great thing about having colleagues/friends, is that you can discuss about science and laugh about it, thing that you cannot do with your old buddies (ever tried a biology joke in a party? wink.gif).

I totally agree with you!!! Having colleagues/friends to talk with!!! I really miss it!! sad.gif
We used to change local “Refranes” (I don’t know the right word in English) for a the scientific versions!

By the way, I like your quote: In research science, there are good weeks... and bad years.
Where did you get it? rolleyes.gif

I only enjoy the smell of fresh coffee after the lab work. Especially LB I don't like, very strange smell like something rotten.
