WHAT the difference between human serum albumin or Bovine serumAlbumin? - very urgent (Feb/15/2007 )
hello
I want to order the serum free media from Invitrogen, but the new question comes.
one containing Human SA , price 36 euro 500 ml and the other contain bovine SA , price 85 euro 500 ml. There are big difference of price between two, please tell me how I should judge and choose good enough for me and not necessarily expensive.
Urgent, please help. My cell is from mouse, but that is what we should think to judge? WHQT the difference between human BSA or Bovine BSA?
THANKS A LOT
this is urgent////
can you tell us more about your cells? what sort are they?
when people have cultured that type of cells before, which type of media have they used?

thanks for attention/
the cell I used is MC3T3 E1 osteoblasts cell line, routinely we cultule it in the mixture of half DMEM and half Alpha MEM and in addition with 10% FBS. Now for the reason of study objective, it is thought better avoid the presence of serum, so we have to try use the serum free media. I asked the industrial technical service, who proposed us one product; but there are two subclasses exist: with human serum albumin and bovine serum albumin. The price are so different , so personally I would like to chose the cheaper one; but I also dont want to get the incorrect one just for consideration of price; so please advice me.
cherry
i'm not an expert on osteoclasts - but if you routinely use 10% foetal bovine serum, maybe for consistency's sake you should go with the bovine option.
however, perhaps there is an osteoclast expert on the forum who can help settle this one?
Any possibility you try both? Just order 1 bottle of each, costs you 121 euro's (not cheap, but not too expensive either?) and then go with what suits you best? Or check literature and see what other people use?
thanks a lot to above both.
It sounds reasonable. Really thanks for your attention. Keep thinking alone, sometimes it really goes to corner; discussion with other guys, it helps so much.
But without thinking my circumastainces, what is the difference between HSA and BSA? Under what kind of situation we should obligatorily choose HSA or BSA? For example, if we culture the cells which originate from human , then HSA is the only good choice? Or this is more important for primary culture than immotalized cell lines?
I think you can go with HSA-SFM. Albumina have quite similar properties and your cells are mouse cells anyway.

may be the large homology between these two albumins!!
