cell culture contamination - (Jan/27/2007 )

Does anyone know of a commercial test for checking for contamination in a cell line? Test for bacterial, fungal, yeast or other?
Is it possible to treat the cell line with something or should I throw them ?

Why do you need a test for bacterial or yeast contamination???Most of the time they are pretty obvious ^^

For Mycoplasma you can either use PCR, DAPI staining or even some photometric methods.

I would only try to recover the cells when they are irreplacable, like a patients sample primary culture. Other than that, if I have a stock I would always trash them.

well thats true, one could easily see if the cultures are contaminated with bacteria or fungi.

There are kits available for mycoplamsa detection.
