non-essential amino acid in culture - light sensitive (Jan/25/2007 )

hi, all

I was wonderling that anyone here know what will happen to "non-essential amino acid" in culure medium after exposed to light.

I know that HEPES is light sensitive, and when it is exposed to light, it will produce? peroxide into medium. but how about non-essential amino acid?

are there any delterious effect to cell? or just it affect the quality of non-essential amino acid?

also, if I have non-essential amino acid in culture medium, should I cover the culture flask with Al foil or something?

Thanks in advance

Hi
I don't know if I can answer this question or not but I grow HeLa cells in DMEM high glucose + 10%FBS +2mM L-Glutamine +1%P/S + 1%NEAA in the medium. And no I don't cover with Al. The cells are fine and I split twice a week. No observable change!

I use NEAA and havent read or told about it being light sensitive or anything.

I dont think it has any unwanted effects.
