can u help?
what are the methods used to measure gene expression in mammalian cells in vitro and in vivo

if there is a reporter co-expressed, usually doing a specific reporter assays; the protein of interest can be monitored in its expression by specific assays (f.i. enzyme assays, binding assays etc), by PCR or Wb/ICC/IHC, or fluorescence microscopy by fluorescent proteins

How about quantitative RT-PCR? That should give you levels of mRNA, compared to some housekeeping gene, which will give a relative idea of gene activity. To tie that into protein expression, some comparison of your protein of interest as a fraction of total protein. Easy to say, not so easy to achieve, i imagine...

most molecular labs would simply do a western blotting. But some labs do RT-PCR or fluorescent microscope or even flow cytomtry. It depends on what equipment you lab has.
