I know many of us live in Japan and dont have useful english references. and some maybe just want to study japanese for fun

i took one course in German and think it's much easier than japanese 
Some people are slow in learning languages - I would not quite say it is dyslexia but somewhere or the other the person cannot just grasp it even when he/she puts all the effort and has all the interedt needed. I dunno if there is any term for that. If not I am going to name it after me.
I simply cannot learn any language. If U say I have no interest then I would object.
But, I am going to learn this language any how.

You should concentrate on the important languages (english, spanish, perhaps french, if you are planning for the future chinese), all others are just hobbies, or a waste of time...
Oh, it is always nice to learn new language.
However, I can't learn new language anymore, I have known 3 languages (English, Mandarin, and Malay language) and several other chinese dialects already but I realise that I have not really master any of them. 
Right now, I just want to polish up my English.
Anyway, English is the most important and Mandarin will never take over though a lot of people around the world are rushing to learn the language. 
I guess it really depends how you look at it. If you want to settle down in some foreign countries, you should learn their language. It will help in term of daily lifestyle or just communicating with your supervisor. =)

I wish to learn enough Japanese to read Manga and watch Japanese cartoons.
At the moment, I can only understand little kids cartoons (cartoons for under 5 years old!!)

Minnie, do you know some sites useful for studying chinese? yes i know japanese is not very useful to some maybe. but it is very interesting and some poeple learn it just to be able to read manga..
