why protein gels are run at constant current and constant voltage? - (Nov/30/2006 )
hi!
i had a very general query as to why the protein gels are run at constant voltage and constant current but the dna gels are run at constant current?? Also why at all we require horizontal gels for running dna samples, why cant we use vertical gels as in case of proteins?

I suggest historic reasons as often in biology/biochemistry; for protein gels you choose either constant current OR constant voltage; for instance if you like to run at 30 mA, current should be chosen at maximum (f.i. 250 V)

I run my DNA gels (PAGE) at constant power (Watts).
