antibiotic detection from mold - (Nov/13/2006 )

hey, my bacterial plates got contaminated by some mold, which are inhibiting the growth of the bacteria now. What are some protocols one could use to determine what type of antimicrobial agent is at work? thanks.

That may be pretty complicated. There could be series of things going on that might not even be related to a antibiotic compound. For example, the mold may be hording the nutrients from your bugs inhibiting the growth. Or creating a less desirable growth environment, (acidic, basic, whatever) that hindering growth.
