EGFP-red FP-FRET - best suitable red FP for FRET? (Oct/24/2006 )
we use Dsred for FRET with EGFP; we like to optimize our FRET and may also test alternative red FP´s;
has someone experience with other red FP such Dsred2, RFP, mCherry, tTomato, mPlum etc in FRET for EGFP; has someone a favourite?

DsRed2 itself will not be so good as it's a tetramer (as is DsRed itself actually, so I'm surprised it works for you, or doesn't it work and hence you need to optimise?).
I have no experience, but maybe http://imaging.ccb.sickkids.ca/documents/nmeth819.pdf can be a good start. Colleagues of mine have used CFP-YFP with great succes, maybe that's an option? Otherwise, DsRed-monomer from clontech might be an option?

thanks vairus; so mCherry appears to be state of the art; we have various GFP and do not wish to re-combine them with CFP
