NCBI toolkit for MacOSX not found - (Oct/16/2006 )

Dear members,

Can anyone help me find NCBI toolkit version for MacOSX (file ncbi.hqx) ?
I've already tried to find it at the well-known adress 'ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/toolbox/ncbi_tools/ncbi.hqx' but it seems to contain only Unix / Windows versions.

Thanks a lots for your help

Best Regards

As you know, Apple gave up on writing its own OS, and now uses BDS Unix -- the only thing Apple wrote is the GUI interface. Thus, you should use the UNIX version of the NCBI toolbox.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that NCBI provides UNIX binaries, thus you'll have to download the source and compile it yourself.

From the FAQ:

Q. I have Macintosh PowerBook with Mac OS 10, what archive should I download?
A. For Mac OS 10 you should download the sources of NCBI toolkit for Unix
located at:
ftp://ftp.ncbi.nih.gov/toolbox/ncbi_tools/ncbi.tar.Z
The Darwin is supported, you should have GNU tar, GNU make and other GNU utils
installed. Please follow unix instructions in file ./ncbi/make/readme.unx

Hi HomeBrew,

Thanks for your answer. I had found the answer to "what should i download for Mac" in a ncbi FAQ but
i think this one's deprecated because they speak about ncbi.hqx.
I've already downloaded the good one (unix one) and built it successfully.
I agree it's not surprising the version is the same as any Unix platform.

Thanks again,
Regards,
BenoƮt.
