Configuration settings to speed up the Opera browser - (Oct/12/2006 )

Hi,

I didn't know which section to put this topic in so I thought the nearest field to computers would be bioinformatics. A friend of mine recommended using Opera as a web browser because apparantley it's faster than IE, Safari and Mozilla.

So I installed it and have been using it for a few weeks. I have to say it's slightly faster than IE 6.0 but definatley slower than Mozilla.

Is there any way that I can adjust the configuration settings to speed it up?

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks! smile.gif

Have you modded mozilla??? Do you mean Mozilla or Firefox?

as far as I am aware there is not much you can do with Opera - I used it on the mac for a bit - then went and made some changes to Firefox (about:config) and woo hoo firefox was on fire...

if you want something really rapid change to Lynx smile.gif

Yeah I meant Firefox. A few months ago I managed to change the config settings on Firefox to speed up browsing and it's perfect! biggrin.gif

Regarding Opera, I've been running it on Windows but it's just way too slow mad.gif ..........especially when executing scripts. I think I'll uninstall the damn thing and try Lynx. When it comes to my MacBook, I stick with Safari, which is pretty ok.

Thanks for your suggestion perlmunky!

There are several add-ons and extensions that help. With slower computers Firefox is known to be quite slower than IE: To increase speed try Fasterfox and/or Firetune ; I installed both, and they helped a lot. Installation is really easy from the webpage. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/?application=firefox

Hey.

does that include the changes to the original firefox?
You need to type about:config in the firefox address bar and change a few settings. These can be found using google... I actually use firfox on the mac and find it to be the best browser (for me)... I don't like safari, camino or opera... I am tempted to try out the IceWeasel browser to see what the fuss is about.

Lynx was a joke - it is a text only browser... although I do use it.

Opera is too fast if you need to use cache is the only browser that you can back in history and see what you write in a form or an e-mail.

Is too fast in loading pages like this forum.

An extenison for get similar velocity in firefox is fasterfox but you can't get the text when you go back on History.
