Relative expression of genes between bacterial species - (Sep/13/2006 )

Hello all,

I´m new in real time PCR and at the moment I´m making preparations for a SYBR Green RT-qPCR analysis (ABI 7500) on several peptidase gene expressions in different bacterial species.
How do I calculate the relative expression of a particular gene between species?

Can anybody help, please?

I think it would be quite difficult, if you want to look at baseline levels for each species. I think your best way to look at this question would be to quantify mRNA transcript based on exact cell number...but perhaps it would be easier to perform protein extractions with normalized controls for western blotting?
