Western Blot for Elastin orother Matrix Proteins - (Aug/17/2001 )
Hi,I have problems running Western blot for elastin. It seems to be a very sticky molecule and although I get bands of expected sizes they look really bad. Does someone know how I can make this protein more "homogenous"? I have tried reducing conditions and sonication of my sample, this helps a little but still the bands look crooked.

We run Western blots for elastin very often and we usually get good results. I dont know at what temperature, voltage and thickness you are runing your gels at, but try reducing the voltage and temperature.Reducing and boiling the sample should dissociate elastin from its binding protein EBP.
