Use of acetone for fixation - (Aug/10/2006 )

Hi,
I would like to know in what circumstances acetone is chosen over methanol or PFA for fixation of cells. Could anyone tell me?

I have used acetone for permeabilisation of neurons and the the processes r better preserved with acetone than with triton for eg.

Not sure abt fixation though.
