Why do we have to use MOPS and formaldehyde in RNA electrophoresis - (Aug/03/2006 )

Would you please tell me why do we have to use MOPS
and formaldehyde in RNA electrophoresis.

Formaldehyde is used because it unfolds the secondary structure of the RNA. MOPS should do the same.
Please, take care with formaldehyde because it is toxic and you shoudn't inhale it
