Is it safe to sterilize DMSO using autoclave? - (Jul/17/2006 )

I got my filter dissolved just now(do not have nylon membrane at hand).Or is it just OK NOT to sterilize?

Someone very clever in this forum asked me once: "Do you believe that anything grows in DMSO?"
And I figured...that...no...
So since then I went on using it without sterilizing in cell culture and have never had any problems. smile.gif

So do I. I assume nothing is growing in DMSO. (however I keep the bottle "sterile", I don't want to have pyrogens like LPS in my solution).
I never had problems.

Sigma supplies sterile filtered DMSO in small 5 ml glass vials (Cat.#D2650). This is what we use in tissue culture.

no need to autoclave DMSO....

No autoclave, flashing point is about 87°C, and from around 3% there is an explosion risk!
