When should we use DPBS w/o (without calcium chloride and magnesium chloride), when DPBS w, when HEPES, when HBSS...?

I use DPBS with calcium and magnesium for Immunocytochemistry. Helps to keep the cells attached.

For washes before adding trypsin to cells, DPBS w/o Ca & Mg. Also for preparing protein extracts.
Also use it for making cell culture solutions.
