Sound and plants - sound and plants (Apr/08/2006 )

Pages: Previous 1 2

i'm just wondering, if plants do get affected by noise/sound/music, how do they actually "perceive" this? i mean, in what way do they "hear" it? with what?
higher forms of animals have "eardrums(etc)" to detect soundwaves.. how 'bout them (if ever)?

(hello.. i'm new here.. i hope it's fine if i join this "conversation" biggrin.gif)

IF plants detect sounds, big IF

it might be via sound being broken down into certain frequencies these frequencies could cause changes in protein structure and thus function, e.g. very high frequencies can degrade proteins (sonication)
