i would say that kits and liquid preps are ok....
Due to facility to adjust lysis solution volume and the fact you can't get overload, i would say trireagent is better. But it's as you want.

I have successfully extracted RNA from monkey skin several times using Trizol and a polytron. A good fast grind of the tissue is the trick.
