CpG calculation? - (Mar/03/2006 )

Just kinda confused over the terms "CpG" and "CG".
If i'm looking to calulate the "CpG" content of a sequence, do I just look for all occurrences of the dinucleotide "CG" in the sequence? Or, is it more complicated than this?

Any help would be great, thanks!

You've got it.

You are right if you just want to count the number of 'CG's or 'CpG's. There is another calculation which help define if a stretch of DNA is a CpG island or not. It is called the ratio of observed CpGs over expected CpGs. Check this thread if you want to know more http://www.protocol-online.org/forums/inde...ved+to+expected
