Why Stem cell need beta-mecaptoethanol - (Feb/07/2006 )

Hi,
I am not sure about the role of the following reagents in cell culture media? Can somebody give me a more positive answer about them?


For example: what is the role of beta-mecaptoethano in Stem cell medium?
Why need to add sodium pyrate, HEPES to the medium?
