Programs for designing Primers - (Jan/15/2006 )

Hi,

what kind of (free) programs do you use to design primers and what experience do you have with it?

Recently I started to look a little bit on the internet for primer designing programs. I found "FastPCR". It is a good program but maybe there are better programs that I don't know yet.
Maybe you can help me with this.

Thanks smile.gif

Try if you can get Primer Express by ABI Prism, or check this link PRIMER3

I've only got good experiences with primer3. You can also use amplifiX to make "in silico" PCR to test your primers.

Some of the companies selling oligo's will have primer design programs on their website (Sigma, IDT).

My favorite program is webprimer. It picks automatically picks the best primer from a set.

i use oilgonucleotide properties calculator for primer designing and it is quite user friendly.
